General rights of workers in Socialism
In a Socialist society where workers are no longer ensalved to Capitalists...where workers commonly own companies in form of workers'-cooperatives.. workers would be able to satisfy their own class interests (as in politically and economically-ruling class).
Workers as individuals have different needs and wants (not to be confused with class-general-interests) since not all workers are entitled to some conditions of their fellow workers. For instance, well-paid doctors don't need to get free food from government-sponsored solidarity organisations while others may need to do so i.e. minimum-wage workers. I'm not sure if we can get rid of poverty in any type of economic or political system, but I'm sure that every man and woman are entitled to rights which would get rid of extreme-poverty.
What rights? In my opinion, those are the essential rights that should be provided to all:
- Free or/and affordable homes (houses, apartments..etc).
- Free healthcare (Health and medicine indsutries should be nationalised to cut costs and remove profit-motive)
- Affordable electricity and water to households (nationalised)
- Right to communication (Internet and telephone services)
- Education (should include high-education such as university and college)
Rights of the Workplace
- Minimum wage
- Forming unions
- Workplace safety
- Notice before firing a worker
- Pension for those who are recently fired and are willing to get a job
- Paid holidays
Some may wonder why "minimum wage" is necessary in Socialism since workers control wages themselves and not the capitalists and some of you would think it's stupid to have a law for it in a Socialist State. Actually, if you think about it, workers may exploit other workers too, such a situation though would occur to temporarily-employed workers by permanent-workers in a cooperative or so.
Fake Leftism: The True Enemy
The left (communists, socialists, social-democrats..) need to get rid of the traitors of the movement, those who claim to be leftists or "pro-workers" when they're not. Good examples of fake-leftist parties are Democratic Party (US) along with Labour Party (UK).
What inspired me to write this article is the loss of Chillean 'Socailist' Party to the conservatives in the presidential elections. That defeat didn't surprise me though since their party is barely social-democratic after the coup of 1973 which removed Comrade S. Allende from his democratically-elected position.
Once the workers vote-in fake-leftists, they would wmost likely be disappointed. As a result, they'd turn to the right since they'd think they've already tried "the left" and it's time to look for a "right-wing alternative". This is very sad, but it's happening everyday in all nations!
We, the true left, should stop this madness. If we denounce these parties and organisations which spoil our name and the message of leftism of solidarity, workers' rights and social causes. Once we do that, the working class will be aware of the real "leftist alternative" (let it be Socialist or Social-democratic) which would be the road to Socialism. A good example of this would be when Chavez "broke" the two-party system of Venezuela by winning elections in late 1990s.
ALBA and Solidarity with Haiti
The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (Spanish: Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América, or ALBA) is known for its solidarity efforts all around the world, before and after the establishment of ALBA.
Nearly 2000 Cuban doctors are currently working in Africa in countries and hundreds currently helping in Haiti and much more in Venezuela as part of an agreement. Venezuela, on the other hand, is supplying free oil to Haiti until the 'emergency' is over, even though oil is one of the main sources of income in Venezuela and it is in need of income more than ever in these hard times in the global-capitalist economy. The Capitalists, which control the media (thus control the flow of information, directly or not) didn't credit Cuba or Venezuela with anything. Aljazeera-English though, decided to do so by writing http://english.aljazeera.net/focus/2010/01/201013195514870782.html . That is quite expected since Aljazeera is filled with Arab reporters which tend to be Anti-Imperialist and Pro-Chavez generally. Chavez is hailed by lots of Arabs, even by the capitalists sometimes, so it isn't surprising that Aljazeera mentioned our comrades' help. Cuba, a blockaded Marxist-Leninist State, is helping others even in hardships. Long live the revolution, long live ALBA!
Capitalism: Free or 'unfree' Market?
In my opinion, Capitalism works better in an oppressive society than it does in a free one. What stablized this thought in my head are the recent Chinese-American clashes on currency and trade. China, a totalitarian-state, is growing rapidly (economically). One of 'unfair advantages' that President Obama pointed out is the artificial-devaluation of the Chinese currency which helped the chinese economy so far yet harmed the American economy in way or another (while exporting).
I'm not quite sure what's that supposed to mean; is the US admitting that a free economy may come-out weaker than a regulated-economy? The problem with Libertarian thoughts and theories is that they always pre-assume conditions. Conditions such as:
1) Chairty will ultimately work
2) The Capitalista would definately want worker-satisfaction. (contradicts with Marxist class-struggle ideas)
3) Markets have 'magical hands' and would somehow fix themselves. Yea, let's see how that's going to work with the Chinese-currency issue!
They also fail to realise that a free market may not react-well to regulated capitalist markets elsewhere. Globalisation makes it even harder for a free-market to exist.
I dont support Chinese-Capitalism or Swedish Social-Democracy: I support Socialism. Socialism is the answer to this mess, Obama, not cutting ties with China. China wants respect, not friends.
In defense of Chavez
TV channels and newspapers in Venezuela are mostly controlled and owned by the bourgeoisie (Capitalists) and that's a threat to freedom of speech and expression. How so? Basically, the word of the proletariat (workers) gets silenced, self-censored to please the capitalists. Another example of self-censorship in the media would be triggered by commercial-ads. Yes, you've heard it! I'm sure that many of you have heard of the "If you publish articles against our corporations interests, then we won't advertise on your channel!"
Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, launched ViVe in 2003 to promote real 'freedom of speech'. Many confuse ViVe with being state-ran, but it's rather state-funded to bypass the ads-flaw in Capitalism. ViVe has all kinds of journalists (ideologically-speaking) even though they're mostly Chavistas.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela recently enforced a law where TV stations would be temporarily shut-down until they comply with the new law which states that those capitalist tv channels should broadcast the president's speeches and other important government stuff, to keep the citizens of Venezuela informed of the country's politics. The Capitalist media has no right to disobey to this law, since it was created by the democratic institutions of Venezuela.
Freedom of speech cannot occur in Capitalism, which is why it shalt be overthrown.
Viva Chavez, Viva la Revolución!
